## 1. Egress and code If you're adding a bedroom, you need a code-compliant egress window. That single decision drives excavation, structural work, and permitting.
## 2. Moisture and vapor Every Massachusetts basement has moisture. We test, we detail the vapor barrier, and we choose flooring that can handle it. Skipping this step is how basements grow mold behind the drywall.
## 3. Ceiling height Duct runs, beams, and existing plumbing all steal ceiling height. Sometimes we reroute; sometimes we build a soffit. Deciding early keeps the drywall crew moving.
