We build to International Residential Code with proper concrete footings below frost line (48" in MA), code-spec joist hangers, stainless or coated fasteners, proper ledger flashing tied into your house wrap, and the right span tables for your decking material. Pressure-treated is the most affordable option but requires staining or sealing every 2–3 years. Composite (Trex, TimberTech, Azek) costs more up front but is virtually maintenance-free for 25+ years — no stain, no rot, no splinters.
